Swinging At Love (Suttonville Sentinels #2)
by Kendra C. Highley
Publication Date:  March 13, 2017
Publisher:  Entangled TEEN Crush

Outfielder Tristan Murrell has a problem. As the number two slugger for the Suttonville Sentinels, his team is counting on him to make their very first run at the state championship. But he has a secret—his swing has totally deserted him. As in, he can’t hit anything. He needs to fix the issue, and fast, but how?

Ballerina Alyssa Kaplan has a problem, too. The shiny new sports complex in town has left her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.

Tristan needs a miracle. So does Alyssa. And maybe, just maybe, Tristan’s secret weapon might be the girl of his dreams…

Disclaimer: This book contains hot, shirtless baseball players, kisses that bring a ballerina to her knees, and a lot of baseball smack-talk.

*What would you be doing right now if you were not an author? I currently have a career in HR, but if I could’ve chosen anything, probably working at Disney World. That’s my retirement plan—greeting happy vacationers at a Disney resort hotel.

*5 years ago: what were you doing? Five years ago was a real turning point in my writing career. I left my agent, deciding to brave the world of self-publishing. Little did I know that I’d have some success there, and gain the confidence to submit to Entangled on my own.

*Do you have a certain writing ritual? Music is a must. Chocolate is a good motivator. Otherwise, not really. I can write pretty much anywhere. I’ve even written on my iPad in the back of a school bus on my way to a marching band competition—I was chaperoning, and had a deadline. You work with what you have.

*What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? ::waves at Joel:: To dig deeper. I had to learn that the hard way. If you don’t leave some blood on the page, you aren’t putting enough into the story. And from Heather, I’ve learned that if my character’s purpose isn’t fully defined, you’ll wander without a good, cohesive story.

*Ever fangirled over another author? Who was it? All. The. Time.  Let’s see, lately? Pierce Brown and V. E. Schwab. Perennially? Laurie Halse Anderson, Laini Taylor, Rae Carson, and Leigh Bardugo.

*Is there an author you'd like to meet?  I’ve met Laurie Halse Anderson and she’s absolutely lovely. Maggie Stiefvater is a trip online, so she would be a fun author to meet.

*Biggest writing pet peeve? Repetitive words. One criticizes what one does…and I have to work hard to avoid repeating words in close succession…my editors are always calling those out for me. Now they stand out in other works, too.

*Do you read other's reviews of your books? I do, at least early on. It’s tough when the feedback is harsh, but that’s how you learn. This didn’t work, but that other thing did….

Fav Color: Red
Fav food: Chocolate. (Actual food? Probably chicken pot pie)
Fav song and/or singer:  Guh, so hard to decide on just one. ColdplayU2ImagineDragonsOneRepublic – does that count?
Guilty pleasure: Getting my nails done every 2 weeks. A girl needs a little glamor.

Kendra C. Highley lives in north Texas with her husband and two children. She also serves as staff to four self-important and high-powered cats. This, according to the cats, is her most important job. She believes in everyday magic, extraordinary love stories, and the restorative powers of dark chocolate.

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES

Baseball player Kyle Sawyer has many labels: bad boy, delinquent, ladies’ man, fearless outfielder… Only one of them is actually true. But then sweet ballet dancer Faith Gladwell asks him to help wreck her reputation, and everything goes sideways.

Faith knows a thing or two about love, and what she had with her cheating jerk of an ex wasn’t it. When he starts spreading rumors about her being an Ice Queen, Faith decides it’s time to let a little bad into her life.

Lucky for her, Kyle Sawyer—dark, dangerous, totally swoonworthy Kyle Sawyer—is landscaping her backyard over Spring Break. Shirtless. And if she can convince him to play along, “dating” Kyle will silence the rumors.

But Faith’s plan threatens to expose Sawyer’s biggest secret of all…and that’s a risk he’s not willing to take.

Disclaimer: This book contains drop-the-book-and-fan-yourself kisses…and touches. Fall in love with a bad boy at your own risk.
